Colourful houses in Deeg

after our visit to the water palace we just had to have a walk in the village
it was so colourful and it looked so clean compared to a lot of other places we've visited...

as always on narrow alleys, streets....
sometimes it's a wonder that they make it through....
and do you know what ? sometimes they don't...

a newly laid pavement....beautiful....

in and around all houses you'll find the charpai.....daybed....but here it's the bed and the chair...
usually this is the one and only furniture...

the typical little "kiosk"found everywhere...on all streets...

I guess she just came from the ghat that I showed you in my last post...
now with clean laundry

an overloaded transport...as always...

happy faces...I'm quite certain that they don't see visitors like us very often...

a fort with an impressive moat....don't know how old or who built it...but I guess the Jat's did...

love all the colours....

a nap outside...warmer than inside the house...this time of the year you'll find everybody outside in the sun in the mornings....to get warm...it does get cold at night...for us cooler but for the people living in these houses it's cold....

selling peanuts from his trolley...the roasted peanuts are really good....

it was such a fun little walk we had in this little village
(population wise there's no small villages in India compared to the rest of the world)
it's so much fun to explore
especially with my dear friend Kathy !

Deeg Palace - the Water Palace

is found in Bharatpur district in Rajasthan and
was built in the 18th century as a summer retreat for the Jat kings
Fountains, ghats and ingenious water systems where found all throughout....
we where told that it was used by ancestors until 1951 !
first picture is credit to wikipedia cause I didn't get a shot from that side

Gopal Bhawan....

the palace has two embankments..two ghats..on this side not a lot of water though..

the palace and a Sawan pavilion....the smaller building....built like an upturned boat !

the palace is now a museum and some furniture are left...they had kept all the amazing fans ...
hand driven from a room you can't see...(same as the ones I saw in St James church in Cochin)
fantastic invention way back....

my friend Kathy in action in front of the windows of the palace

all in marble....

I can only imagine how beautiful it would be with water in all the fountains that we found all over

this was a part of the palace which we didn't find any information about....
servants quarters or harem ?

here we found round holes in the concrete....see ?  and they seemed to be handmade...
we just couldn't figure out what they where used for ?

Keshav Bhavan close to the other embankment....around it where SO many monkeys....

as always I find water intriguing...reflections and the life around it...

I was waiting for him to ride his bike down cause it actually looked like he was going to...

this was a place with very little visitors....but we did encounter some not so nice young men
who told us some not so very nice things....sometimes Indians don't think we understand what they are saying in hindi...sometimes I wish I didn't....sometimes I don't....
first time this has happened and I'm sure happy I wasn't there by myself
but
if you are travelling around this area it sure is worth a visit...
the village is beautiful....I'll show you some more in the next post...
until then
enjoy you saturday...
have an extra cup of coffee and relax

On the way to Deeg Palace - the Water Palace

the last couple of days I've been on the road with my friend Kathy..
we decided to do a little different tour of the golden triangle
see some other things and really explore
and did we ever !
we started out by heading towards Agra but turned right somewhere along the road
and steered towards Deeg village in Rajasthan
but as always when we are out exploring
we saw things along the road that made us pull over...more than one time !
so  much fun

rural country in Rajasthan....

we met these happy ladies on their way out to get wood or to collect food for their animals...
they all had a "knife"...like a small scythe...

had to get a picture of their ornated tractor....

a little up a head we came to a stop because of the trains....
and this lovely lady walked by

with a friend,,,I guess...

I would never see this at home...people walking on the tracks...

then we entered a village and we saw a gath....an embankment with water..
and when there's water we usually find

women doing laundry and having a bath....

don't know what this guy was doing though...was he the look out or was he just having a peek ?

and when there's water it usually means the animals also have a place to drink and

have a swim ...

my friend Kathy overlooking the big embankment and she didn't go for a swim....

when back in the car we had this human "hanuman" walking by.....
well, it was tuesday which is the god Hanuman's day,
so he dressed up and walked around the village getting food and money...
we just thought he looked scary !
