the importance of a healthy diet, exercise and sleep

the importance of a well balanced diet , exercise and sleep seems to be what
a lot of young people need to learn more about
every day I meet students that are stressed, don't get enough sleep 
and just don't feel good about themselves
some of them haven't thought about how the above can make a difference  or
what the consequences are if one or all of the above are out of sync,
but all of them know that if  I have a car I need to fill it with gas and oil otherwise it won't run,
and that it needs some service done to it once in a while....

dance is a fun way to exercise....here some kids at Kunskapsskolan who have dance class twice a week !! (my daughter was visiting at this time and she so wanted to try this out...she loved it !)



maybe not the best place to get some sleep.....

Exercise+endorphins=Happiness

so did anyone of you out there follow my advise yesterday ? the one about dance, walk or run.....
I followed my own advise...I ran on the treadmill for 45 minutes....actually what I do, because I have a really bad back, is that I run for 10 minutes and then I walk for 5 minutes....or I walk  5 and run 15 minutes...or... well you get the point ..depending on how my back is doing....


since the pool is still closed I have got to do other things besides swimming ....like weights, cardio on the cross trainer or the bike...but I do it...see that's the thing....to find a routine that works for you and stick to it...try to get at least three to four workouts in per week.....
then why exercise ?
the answer is quite obvious but what many don't know is that there is a link between exercise and happiness...endorphin production is connected to them both......it's the endorphins that make you feel oh,so good....they act as both painkillers and as the pay-off for your bodys reward system...the thing is that researchers have found that light to moderate weight lifting or cardiovascular exercise doesn't produce endorphins so you really need to dig in and get that body working out ! 
BUT don't start your first workout this way....slowly build it up...it's better to get it going and keep it going instead of showing off once in the gym and then you're not able to walk for a week and then you give up because it hurts to much....(maybe someone recognise themselves here)


get some good music in your phone ( with a good beat to what you are doing)and some good headphones....crank it up and get going.....for me it's so much easier with music because I actually don't like to run or to have a date with the cross trainer....I have managed to get  4 and a half hours of good workout music into my Iphone(yes,old lady proud of herself)....maybe you,dear reader have any good tunes for workouts? please share if  you do....
so what better way than to start off this week by getting your body moving to some good music

Thunder and lightning and STRONG winds

not a very pleasant morning
but some of my swedish friends here immediately wrote on facebook that this means SPRING...the season spring, that is....
that sure felt good to read but since I've had a cold since a couple of weeks back all I could think about was  how to stay warm and  how to get this darn cold off my back
  I got a gift the other day that I hope helps, a box full off Kinu's...what a great gift !
Kinu's looks like an orange but is not....it's bigger than an orange, juicier than an orange and also sweeter than an orange....


I guess the month of january is the month when everybody tries anything to stay healthy...well, almost...


a good tip is to get enough vitamin C in your body and what better way than to make your own morning juice...it tastes so much better when you do it yourself....no extra sugar and other additives in this one I tell you...only Kinu...just the colour of this one makes me happy !
remember, you have to take care of yourself...spring is just around the corner....

How will I survive without pool and workout partner ?

Our pool is closed for the season ( even though they told me it was going to stay open until the end of november,not really pleased about this... but this is India..one day I get some kind of info and the next day it's changed)…..and my workout partner Mr Gunnar has gone home….


It's so much easier to work out when you're not alone and when someone else comes up with a workout…it was fun to swim with Mr Gunnar again…

it was COLD getting in this morning…the nights have been cooler and the heating is the sun...



 did I find something at the bottom here or…no ! just the start of a flip turn for those of you who don't know swimming so well 


I do splash A LOT of water in my turns ….I know...


Good streamliner but a bad kicker…I'm just happy that my back allows me to do some swimming still..
it would be so much fun to compete again….

A workout, french toast and I GoPro

After a pretty long workout in the pool I was so ready for some french toast


and coffee...do I have to tell you that it was yummy....
it was a first in India actually....don't think it was  the last time though....

then I opened my gift that I got from my wonderful family on my birthday this summer


well, I had opened it but not really opened it.. I charged the batteries and put in the microSD card and tried to get it out of the waterproof seal ......read the instructions ....why do I always read the instruction booklet after I have tried ? Am I the only one that does that ?...


everything is working just fine....I just took 30 pictures of the ceiling in a second....guess I need to get back to that instruction booklet ! 


I've tried the wrist housing bracelet....pretending I was under water.....felt good...I just need to work on those buttons some more because I haven't got a clue what I'm doing here....
now I'm going to try it for real....in the pool ....I wonder if I will see some big fish ?

Follow the zigzag road or....



Being a swimmer I want the straight line but then it will be like 35 meters so I go across the zigzags...
do you know how confusing that is ?.......it's about 27 meters....depending on if you get caught in the zigzags or not...
as you can tell by the picture it sure was crowded this morning....or not.....

A different and fun workout !


All exercise is good exercise...... especially if it's fun...and badminton is fun !
Didn't have any net or any field, we just went outside and played.
I must admit we where a little rusty in the beginning....
Happy with the rackets that I found on sale ! Don't think we've had any better.

this is what I read....I don't think it's to often that you find swedish text on things here in India.
After the sweaty cross trainer it was time for some weights.....Now I'm ready for some food !

Healthy pancakes for breakfast

A while ago I think I promised to tell you about the easy, fast and healthy pancakes for breakfast.


Mash the banana and then whisk in the egg, add a pinch of salt and a pinch of vanilla sugar.
Make small pancakes, or as we say in sweden, plättar.
Strawberries go really well with this.( I only had frozen ones.)
Easy, fast and really healthy !

The workout ?


For those of you who don´t know me I better tell you that I used to be a competitive swimmer and have been a swimcoach for about 25 years ! Nowadays, meaning being an old lady I´m what you call a registered  Masters swimmer.( and no it has nothing to do with golf masters ) There are lots of registered masters swimmers all over the world and lots of competitions. At the moment I´m just working out for my health ! But if anybody is interested in my workout here goes:

5x200 meters free,back,pull,kick,IM
10x100 freestyle 10 sec. rest 
200-150-100-50 pull with paddles+pull buoy 
3x200 kick with fins 1lap esay-1lap hard
100 easy
8x25 max sprint with fins
200 easy warm down

that makes 3600 meters today !

ps.I didn´t drink enough water before and during the work out and that results in.....?






I´m off to

It´s saturday and I don´t have anything planned besides working out and today I thought I´d do a double. I´ll swim first and then later on today I will do some weights. 
Sounds good ? 

Since I get the chance why not promote Kunskapsskolan.....I have had some people ask me about my cap and now with Kunskapsskolan here in Gurgaon it´s a perfect opportunity to let them know more. Almost everyone is positively surprised when they learn that it´s the same name here and in Sweden.
So the brand is not only shown on all the roll ups all  over it´s also actually swimming around Gurgaon.


I´ll tell you later about my workout.

Health check up turns into unhealthy check up ?


Yesterday I had to do my second health check up since arriving in India on the 12th jan. First time I spent about 5 + 2 hours for all the tests. Yesterday was another 3 hours with some other tests. Between the tests I have shrunk 7.5 centimeters in length and then I grew 6 back ! I gained 22 kilos in 4 weeks and now I have lost 23 kilos. I have metal scrap in my head. I have had people( meaning other drivers and patients just coming in ) watching me naked while they where doing an ultra sound of my heart and while a nurse was taking my blood some indian man just grabbed me and said " That´s my seat "and tried to pull me out of the seat while I still had the needle in my arm. They wanted me to flash ( meaning my front naked ) in front of the X-ray machine and a bunch of indian men. I thought of myself as a quite healthy person before but the strain of going through some of the things here in India is really taking out it´s toll.

Mats is reading this at the moment., Shantaram.....says it´s really good and you get a good workout while reading it. 
I think it weighs 2 kilos !
