Bagru Fort

you would think that we spent days in Bagru
when in fact we only spent about 4 hours there !
but those 4 hours where good ones
when following the women in the religious ceremony we ended up
right at the fort,
so we choose to explore that instead of yet another temple....

this house was built right on to the walls of the fort...

beautiful old paintings in the entrance...
it felt more like walking into an old haveli than a fort I must say.....

it had a big courtyard ...

too bad that no one bothered to keep it in shape....

once I bet this was a stunning fort....

see the electricity wire !!

we had an admirer who followed us...

when in Rajasthan you always see these guys on the streets...

love the basket in the back....

even though Kathy's and mine expectations where higher about what we would see and do in Bagru
it was a good visit...a nice little village with wonderful people...
I'm sure happy that we did this little trip Kathy
and I look forward to the next one
in India, Sweden or Canada  or ?

Colourful women in Bagru

since I showed you the men yesterday I just have to show you some
colourful women today....
women in Rajasthan wear saris that are really bright in colour

I think this bright orange is my favourite !

some we meet are so shy...and some are so beautiful....

these women where taking part in a religious ceremony....

a procession of women ....finish line was the temple...
we only walked with them to this old place
an old fort that looked interesting ....,yes, we did explore....
(I'll show some pictures from it in another post)

the jewellery is something special in India
I hope I can visit some of the villages, tribes that wear really special jewellery
when I go back....
I'm not really done with India....
still some places I want to go and some people I want to meet...
do you have some places you dream about dear reader ?

Bagru men in beautiful turbans

Turbans are so much fun
especially when you see so many different ones...
different in colours, size and wrapping

a cobbler in action..

a shave and a cut in the shed....

what I haven't figured out is at what age does a male begin to use a turban ?
does it have to do with age at all or is it when you get married or ??
anyone who knows ? please let me know if you do !

Mud printing in Bagru, Rajasthan

Kathy and I left Amber and headed for Bagru....
a village about 30km from Jaipur
the Chhipa community in Bagru has been hand block printing for about 350 years,
developing a unique process with natural vegetable dyes...
the Bagru printing process and the Dabu printing process are the techniques used

the Dabu process or the mud printing process....they really use mud...

when printed they cover it with saw dust.....

left to dry out in the sun for at least 24 hours...
then it's usually dyed in indigo....
if you don't know, indigo are crushed blue berries....

they did screen printing also...

fabric prepared for the screens...

the other technique was the Bagru printing process in which the fabric is yellow dyed in harda solution..harda is extracted from fruits of the myrobalan plant...

printed with natural red colour....

flowers and herbs are used in the process....red kasis, dahura flowers, alizarin etc....

twisting the skirts before another round of dying....

I'm not sure what he did at the factory....but he wanted his picture taken !

after the visit to the factory we we left the car and went for a walk in the village
interesting as always
Did we see anything special ?
check out my next post and I'll show you
