my very best friend and her students together with her colleges at
Källebergsskolan, Eslöv, Sweden, raised money for Sankalp
by putting up a musical last christmas

amazing that swedish kids do this for kids they have never met or know...

finally my friend got to visit one of the schools and meet the founder
Commander Chaudhry and also meet the kids...

all the kids got school bags for the donated money...first time...
and now my friend brought them beads....

at this school there's around 500 kids.....

this girl handed over a handmade thank you card...

it was a very pleased and happy friend who left the school...

Happy girls at Sankalp school playing hopscotch

I visited one of the Sankalp welfare society schools again....remember the swedish kids that raised money for the less fortunate kids here in Gurgaon...

so what's happening now is that I have together with the people working at the school decided on what we can use the money for ......??? this will be a secret until the end of april when I'm going back again...you see the new school year starts today so it's kind of nice to get something for the school start.... as  always it was nice to come and visit and talk to the kids...this day it was girls only that I met.... they where out playing hopscotch...and they seemed to have so much fun...
I can't remember when I saw kids doing this at home...

I had to sit down and show them the pictures....they where so fascinated and couldn't believe that they where actually looking at themselves.....even the shyest girl gave me a big smile when she saw her picture...feels good to know that I get to go back soon....
have a fantastic tuesday dear reader...I'm off to school to greet a swedish lady !

Swedish kids are raising money to help less fortunate kids here in Gurgaon.

Remember I told you about the interest from Sweden in wanting to help some schools for the less fortunate kids here in Gurgaon….

I'm so overwhelmed when writing this because my very best friend Katrin who visited us a couple of weeks ago went home to the school where she works as an art teacher, with an idea to her students….every year they set up a musical and the money they raise from this is donated to something the students find important….Yes they decided that all the money they raise tonight will go to the schools I visited here in Gurgaon…they've worked with a theme at school called "Lika Olika"…"we are all alike but different and that's ok"…all students are involved in the work , on stage or behind stage…..
I so wish I could be there and see it….
this morning I got a mail..it was this article ...

it was published in one of the newspapers this morning….I can only say Wow !
it's a mazing what a school can do when working together on a common goal…I don't think you can get more hands on education….can you ?
it really warms my heart that there are kids back home that are prepared to give to the less fortunate in a land so far away….
while writing this I suddenly get a new mail….. I got this link sent to me…

click on the go to link…..in swedish though…

It's a link to the news on the local TV station !!! that was sent this morning !!…how wonderful that they get some recognition and that TV helps spread information about tonight…..again Wow !
I tell you..it was a tear-filled old lady who sat here in India listening to these lovely kids ….
amazed…I'm so proud of them even though I don't know them at all….
so all I can say is

Good Luck and brake a leg….
Best wishes from Susanna and Mats in India.

I hope that some parent will get the musical on a video file so that I can see it later.

This morning I visited government funded schools here in Gurgaon.

This morning I visited schools  for the underprivileged kids here in Gurgaon. The Sankalp welfare society helps out with two schools….
Sankalp means a pledge.A pledge to create awakening, awareness and opportunities for the less fortunate.
Sankalp's first school was set up in a tin shed on the roadside with thirty children and one blackboard by Commander K K Choudhary.
Today I had the pleasure to meet him at one of the schools..nowadays retired from the navy..active in the welfare society with other like minded and committed citizens..

soaking up the sun outside as much as possible now during the wintertime…

the classes where also out in the sun….

the school's are for the less fortunate kids….meaning their parents can't afford schooling so at this school they get it all free….from school uniforms to shoes to a meal a day to pencils etc. Attendence is really good and the meal is one of the reasons they come.

lots of colours …..

this schools have 350 kids and the one above with the kids out in the sun has about 275 kids.

the school timetable is posted at the entrance on the wall….

the timings are between 9 and 1.30

the kids are between 5-6 years old up to 14…..if they want to study more they help them on to the next level.

they also get healthcare…a doctor comes regularly and provides with medicine if necessary…

this beautiful young lady,Yashoda , is one of the success stories….she ones attended as a student and now she's a teacher herself….at the same school.
It was a pleasure to see all the kids and meet the people working at the schools and I can't but help to admire people like Mr Choudhary who wants to give back to society. I'm proud to say that there's also interest from Sweden in helping the schools….I'll let you know more later !
