Vrindavan ghat - Krishna's birthplace

next stop on our little adventure was a stop in Vrindavan,
Lord Krishna's birthplace...
it was supposed to be a stop at the ghat's in Mathura but our guide didn't want that !
he was born and raised in Vrindavan so he decided that Vrindavan it was....
Kathy sure did what she could to tell him that but we got stories about
pandits and crime ..... ( no it wasn't bandits...pandit is a caste ) he just didn't want to go to Mathura that's for sure....but we did enjoy anyhow.....
grab a coffee and have a seat ....loads of pictures !
( I decided to do it in one post so...)

anyone with spectacles needs to be aware around theses monkeys....they love to steal specs !
therefore our guide used my sweater....

as a scarf for Kathy...all wrapped up ....

so this place is for everyone paying tribute to Krishna....Hare Hare Krishna...
now I think you all know what I'm talking about...

every day, at different hours,  all year around there are ceremonies at the ghat....
we first arrived around 4 and they where preparing for the ceremony that starts at sunset...

I asked our guide about the different colours they use to paint their foreheads with but the only explanation he gave was that it was low casts that did this !!!

at this spot some ceremony was already taking place with flowers being thrown into Yamuna - the holy river and some water being poured out through these containers..looked like horns...

the colours are spectacular, don't you think ?

any food for me ?
cheeky little monkey

beautiful rangoli being prepared...

camels on the banks of Yamuna river....the small one was so cute !
he didn't want anyone to ride on him so he threw off his passengers.....
looked quite funny I must say...

it was a really old place and the building was beautiful...lots of wood carvings...
reconstruction was also going on at different spots...

I guess the dogs thought they where goats...

Yamuna river had split into different smaller rivers and therefore a temporary bridge had been put in place...

the river bank was really beautiful....if only the sand had been clean...the sand was so soft....
we wanted to see the ghat from the boat but since the river was divided we just went on a little cruise
and had a peek from a distance...

a lady with her vegetables coming across in a boat....

washing of the vegetables in the not so clean Yamuna
but holy...

the guide had brought flowers for us to do our own little puja...
he didn't know that we are totally against throwing these foil containers into the Yamuna !

kids playing on the banks..

there's more than 5000 temples in this area !!!! at least according to our guide....

we did get to see a turtle on the river bank...

kids where playing...so nice to see.....some of the girls selling puja flowers put them down and had a moment of fun...

after the boat ride we went back to the ghat to see the ceremony with the candles and all..
the sun was slowly coming down as you can see....
the sunset in India is pinkish...

lights and all and LOUD MUSIC and chanting....

all flowers being thrown in...

same burning of the light at this spot..kind of look like they use diesel to make it burn !
not good, not good....

it was a really nice pinkish sunset...
and we got to see a ceremony on the holy river....
