our bike rickshaw came to a stop (did you know that there's a parking fee for the bike rickshaws?)
this time it was around the corner to Khari Baoli....the spice market in Old Delh....
it's a street known for it's wholesale grocery and Indias largest wholesale spice market selling all kinds of spices, nuts, herbs an food products like rice and tea.
operating since the 17th century...nowadays a big tourist attraction...
by the way Chandni Chowk is like a planet of it's own....it's a little surreal with all the smells, impressions, noice and people and rickshaws and.. and ..and.. and.....
it's just a lot of everything...but oh so much fun to visit...
ginger and lime vendors...
kulfi anyone ? indian ice cream.....this is one of the things that I don't eat !
the leaf guy...prepares beetle leaves with spices/ arcea nut and ev cured tobacco to chew..called Paan.....well I must admit that this is also something I don't "eat"...
by the way Gunnar ! have you practised sitting like the Indians yet....
day workers sitting waiting and hoping to get some job...
see this is what I wanted to see....
some things I did find expensive though....I thought it would be cheaper in Old Delhi....
mustard seeds...
green cardamom....
black peppers....
the Afghan store displayed their spice in a good way....I hadn't seen the long peppers before....kind of look like seed capsules from the birches...
this vendor only sold dates....better clarify that.....dadlar, the fruit date...nothing else...
the pasta man ! look at those colours in the pasta...
love these bags made out of recycled material...
of course you find the malla vendors here also...
now we turned a corner and walked into the are where we needed to put a scarf over our nose....
small spice particles flying around...
get prepared...go and grab your scarf..I'll prepare the pictures...
see you in the next post
